Stonehenge si trova nel Wiltshire, nel sud dell’Inghilterra. Questo monumento è famoso sia nel Regno Unito e sia nel mondo ed è diventato un simbolo dell’arte e della creatività dell’uomo di secoli fa.
Questa straordinaria costruzione si trova su una collina ed è formata da circa 150 blocchi di circa due tonnellate di peso.
Sia i blocchi disposti in verticale sia quelli in orizzontale, che compongono la struttura provengono da un luogo lontano 300 chilometri e ciò vuol dire che le pietre sono state trasportate senza l’aiuto camion o mezzi simili, per poi essere depositate dove si trovano oggi.
Gli uomini primitivi consideravano questo luogo oltre che bellissimi ma anche sacro ed era anche dotato di un’acustica incredibile. Probabilmente la struttura potrebbe essere stata un luogo dedicato a riti funebri o a “feste” dato che vi sono state trovate delle ossa di maiale.
Tuttavia, gli archeologi hanno trovato recentemente una città risalente al Neolitico, che dista circa 2.5 chilometri dallo Stonehenge.
